Our Christmas tree farm was established in 1972 when my mother received a hundred Fraser Fir trees from the state of New Hampshire Extension service. Ten years later, wow, we have lots of big Christmas trees, and that is how it all began. Started to sell them with a sign out in front of the house, word spread, and we had an active seasonal business.
Planting a hundred or two each year, we had plenty to choose from, as time progressed. We have been open for the three to four weeks leading up to Christmas.
I retired in 2012 after having worked in the Industrial Military Complex for forty years. The Belko Christmas tree farm is now my part time, LOL!, full time job. Christmas trees I will say are probably the hardest thing to grow, deer, pestilence, drought and winter kill takes its toll.
Some years I can lose more than 50 % of what I planted; it is a difficult business. The real reward is seeing customers, some now friends, that come year after year. Associated with our business Is John Jr’s Belko Landscaping business and business that employees 30.
